Almonds are a rich source of monounsaturated fats, vitamin E and magnesium – all of which promote heart health. That’s why I’ve added them to this smoothie. While the recipe calls for blueberries, any sort of berry can be substituted, including raspberries and strawberries.
| 1 cup | low fat (1% MF or less) milk or soymilk |
| 1/2 cup | orange juice |
| 1/4 cup | blueberries, fresh or frozen |
| 2 tbsp | sliced almonds |
| 2 tsp | maple syrup |
| 1 | banana, peeled and chopped |
| 1/2 tsp | vanilla extract |
In a blender, combine milk, orange juice, blueberries, almonds, maple syrup, banana and vanilla. Puree until smooth.
Serve cold.
